Wedding Couple 150x100 - 4 Tips for Preserving Your Wedding Photos for Years to ComeWedding-Couple-150x100

Your wedding photos are very important. They capture love through the passage of time. These images can be later shared with loved ones, making it imperative that you think about proper conservation. The following are four tips to ensure your pictures last as long as possible.

Backups Are a Must

One thing you need to do is have several backups. Some people just keep the negatives, but it is not a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket because anything could happen. What you want to do is have negatives, have your photographs in cloud drives, and keep external drives just to be safe. This is going to cost a little extra, but your photographs are priceless and worth the effort.

Store Photos Carefully

When storing photos, it’s tempting to grab a shoebox, pop a few stacks of photos inside, and call it a day. Don’t do this. It may seem like a spacesaver, but you should never store photos in stacks. Even in a climate-controlled storage unit, there’s still the risk of these photos sticking together. This risk becomes even greater if you store photos in stacks for a long period of time. You also have to make sure that you protect your photographs from direct sunlight. Not only do UV rays degrade color, but they can also increase the chances of your photographs degrading since the paper they are printed on cannot withstand constant heat.

Dryness is Vital

Moisture in the atmosphere is not something people think about when it comes to storing their wedding photographs, but it is important to consider. Too much moisture in the air can increase the chances of your photographs sticking to each other. It can also make it easier for mold to develop. Too much moisture can attract insects. You do not want dampness around your photographs, so be sure to store your pictures in a dry storage space. You don’t want to have to play emergency salvage with your wedding photos.

Know How to Handle Them

You might be surprised to learn that one of the most common reasons photographs degrade prematurely is because people simply mishandle them. Of course, part of the reason you want to keep your photographs as beautiful as ever is to share them, but you have to learn how to share your images properly. For one, it might be a good idea to remove foods and drinks from the area before bringing your photographs out. You should also make sure you wear cotton gloves when handling your pictures because the natural oils in your hands can degrade your pictures, too. Those who do not have gloves may want to handle the pictures by holding them by their edges.

It may seem like a chore to learn how to preserve your pictures, but it is worth your time and effort. These are the memories you hold dear, and these photographs are precious because they hold some of the beauty of that day.
